Shark activity |
|
Apr 28, 2008 - 7:56 PM - by frank n texas
|
Over the past day or so, the CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc. news channels have reported two shark attacks off coast of Florida and one off coast in California..California dude got bitten in half at the upper legs and then spit out....Bled to death on beach
Do not think two bitten in Florida died..Just slightly eaten....lol
Try not to look too much like a seal when you are wade fishing...
Just a heads up here now that the water is warming up and ev-1 is chomping at the bit to do some wade fishing...

Fishing Guide Randall Groves
To Speak at F.O.R. Community Center Lecture Series
Friends Of the River San Bernard announces the second in the bi-monthly free community lecture/workshop series. Friday, April 18 local professional fishing guide Randall Groves will be presenting a workshop on fishing techniques to help us all be more successful in our "fish wishes" just as the spring fishing season is heating up. The workshop will take place at the F.O.R Community Center (20450 C.R. 510 B in the Holiday Shores Subdivision, Brazoria) from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. The doors of the Community Center will open at 6 p.m. To provide plenty of time to visit with your neighbors before the presentation begins.
Randall Groves will speak on wade fishing techniques for Speckled Trout, Flounder and Redfish along Brazoria County's shorelines. He will also discuss the proper rods and reels to use when wade fishing for that giant Red or Sow Trout. Bring your favorite hooks and line as well because he also plans to cover knots that will improve your fish hook-ups. With the mouth of the San Bernard again totally closed Randall may be able to show you just the right technique to take advantage of the very pristine beach that now clogs the San Bernard River mouth.
Captain Randall Groves is a... [Read More]

The Facts
Published March 31, 2008
MATAGORDA — On Saturdays in April, Texas A&M University’s Floating Classroom Program will host two public nature discovery cruises of the inshore coastal waters of the East Matagorda Bay area aboard the R/V Karma, its 57-foot teaching and research vessel.
The Karma will depart from its berth near the roadway entrance to Matagorda Harbor at 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. for two-and-a-half hour trips to collect and examine biological specimens
and inspect the diverse habitats of marine plants and animals under the tutelage of marine science professionals and naturalists.
Space is limited on these university-sponsored trips and there is a cost recovery fee of $12.50 per person for those 14 to 57 years of age and $8.50 per person for those 5 to 13, or 58 and older. It is recommended that guests wear hats, non-skid footwear (no flip-flops, please) and sunscreen (SPF of 30 or greater is best). Iced water, a climate-controlled cabin and a small functional toilet are available on board the boat. According to program director Willie Younger, “Unless someone is extremely prone to motion sickness, it is highly unlikely that sea sickness medications would be required. The Karma’s route is through waters that are very smooth 98 percent of the time.”
The Floating Classroom Program has scheduled public cruises every first Saturday of the month for the past five... [Read More]

Topwater Surface Plugs for Redfish |
|
Feb 28, 2008 - 12:29 PM - by FishBone
|
By Chris Christian
Some anglers are surprised when a redfish hits a topwater lure intended for trout, but I’m not one of them. In fact, my experience has been that reds will eagerly assault a surface bait under the right conditions, and they are normally the larger fish. Not to say that I discovered this.
“Smaller reds seldom mess with a topwater bait,” says veteran St. Augustine guide and tournament angler, Larry Miniard. “When you catch one it’s almost always a solid fish, and that’s one reason why tournament anglers use surface baits a lot. Another reason is that you can cover a lot of water quickly with a surface bait. Surface baits help you zero in on quality reds.”
When is a surface bait the best choice? It depends on conditions, and experienced anglers have learned to recognize them.
In the Mood for Topwaters
Water temperature plays a role in when redfish will enthusiastically assault surface baits, but not as big a role as some might assume. As long as the water temperature is over 70 degrees, reds strike topwater baits. Tide isn’t really a factor. Reds will take topwater plugs on rising water, falling water and even slack water. Of course, if your favorite redfish hole or flat delivers best on a rising tide, by all means break out the topwaters at that time. The depth of the water also isn’t critical, because you can certainly fish a topwater plug in anything... [Read More]
